The elbow joint is a complicated one ..... 3 bones all coming into the one joint means 3 bones have to fit, work and play nicely together.
Sometimes known as Elbow Disease because there are lots of different types.
So when something isn't quite right, we can start to have problems.
Both are usually affected, but sometimes (remember no assumptions) one is worse than the other.
It's a degenerative condition (which means it won't just go away) & will lead to #osteoarthritis in the joint.
Signs - (remember no assumptions, all dogs will be different & they can sometimes be hard to spot) head nodding when trotting, not wanting to jump out of car, off sofa, go downstairs, hard to bend down etc
Posture - see below for ways their body may adapt.
Diagnosis - Only vets can diagnose, so if you're concerned, please discuss with your vet.
Treatment - there are surgical options if necessary & depending on the diagnosis, it can managed without surgery (conservative management) inc physio & other therapies.
I treat lots of dogs with this condition & they have a fab life! We treat the whole body - not just the elbows.
So, if you are concerned, firstly try not to panic & don't assume there is nothing - other than medication or surgery - that can help. Lots of things can! Yay!
